CILICIA. Tarsos. Mazaios, satrap of Cilicia, 361/0-334 BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 10.80 g, 9 h). 𐑁𐑏𐑋𐑕𐑓𐑆 - π‘†π‘‰π‘π‘Œπ‘Šπ‘‹π‘… ('b'ltrs zgbmkw' (?) in Aramaic) Baaltars seated left, holding lotus-tipped scepter in his right hand and resting his left on his chlamys at his waist; to outer left, thymiaterion surmounted by eagle; below throne, barley grain. Rev. Lion walking left; above, Ο‚. Casabonne Series 5, Group E. SNG Levante -. SNG Levante Supp. -. SNG Paris -. SNG von Aulock -. Apparently unpublished and of great interest. A bright and beautiful coin. Good extremely fine.

What makes this coin particularly interesting is the hitherto unpublished Aramaic inscription between the scepter and the thymiaterion on the obverse of this coin. Unfortunately, its precise reading and meaning is unclear, but it might provide valuable evidence where this stater was struck
